Long Vowel Worksheet
The worksheet consists of 10 pages. Each page is explained briefly here.
Long i: ie, y, i-e or igh- The children have to classify the 8 words printed at the bottom of the page according to their long vowel i pronunciation. The vowels produce the sound of long i in different ways and combinations. The 4 different ways given here are – ie, y, i-e and igh. The spaces for each sound are provided below to write the words children thinks it’s appropriate.
Long u: ue, u-e, ew- the page has 9 words printed at the bottom. Similar to the previous page the children have to classify them but according to their pronunciation of long vowels u that are: ue, u-e and ew. There are three boxes provided under each pronunciation where the children have to write their answers.
Long a: ai, ay or a-e – it has 8 words printed at the bottom. The children have to classify them according to their long vowel a pronunciation of ai, ay and a-e. The spaces for each sound are provided below to write the words children appropriately.
Long o: oa, o-e, ow – it has 9 words printed at the bottom. The children have to classify them according to their long vowel o pronunciation of oa, o-e and ow. The spaces for each sound are provided below to write the words children thinks it’s appropriate.
Long e: ee, ea- it has 10 words printed at the bottom. The children have to classify them according to their long vowel e with pronunciation of ee and ea. The spaces for each sound are provided below to write the words children thinks it’s appropriate.
